DO THIS BEFORE APPLYING FOR ANY VACANCY
Carefully Read Job Postings
Do not read the Job Posting in a rush as many always would do as this is very important. Also, do not be in a hurry to send your CV & Cover Letter out because you are desperately looking for a job.
Understand the Job Posting and what the details entail. If you perfectly understand what the job is for, you have a better chance of explaining why YOU are suitable for it.
Always note the dates the job was posted and when it closes.
Find Out About The Company
You will not be working for a job, you’ll be working for a Company.
Read the Company’s Profile/Annual Reports. Check out the Company’s Website – Take a tour of the website and find out what they do.
Human Resource Managers can tell by your answers and your letter if you have taken the trouble to find out about the company. If you haven’t, they often may not be interested in what you have to say.
Easy to Read Resume
HR managers are very busy people, so make it easy for them to access your resume. If you are going to attach your resume to the email, send it to yourself first to see if it opens properly. Also, include the resume in the email.
Include a Cover Letter, But Keep it Short
A cover letter is the first impression a prospective employer gets of you. Your cover letter states clearly and simply why you are applying for the job, and why you are the best qualified for it.
Your cover letter is not your resume, so keep it short and to the point, write concisely.
Include Your Contact Information
This may seem like a trivial or simple matter, but you’d be surprised how many people simply forget to include their contact telephone numbers/email in the resume.
Check for Grammatical Errors
Always check your grammar and spelling before you send out your cover letter and resume. Spelling and grammar mistakes tell a recruiter that you are careless and pay little attention to detail. Nobody wants to hire a person like that
Finally, ensure to follow carefully laid out instructions for all application processes this will improve your chances of getting an invitation.
